Top Tip

Wear a smile and chat with locals. Every time I’ve been to Cuba, the people have been the highlight of the trip. You can learn loads about the country by striking up a conversation with someone at a restaurant, bar, park, or just on the street. Most people will readily talk about anything – from the weather to the pros and cons of Cuba’s healthcare system.

My Favorite Destination

For me, Viñales is the most beautiful place in all of Cuba. The whole region is completely stunning, it’s not surprisingly that it’s been granted UNESCO World Heritage Site status. As well as stunning scenery, the valley offers a really interesting insight into rural life in Cuba.

My Best Experience

Spending a truly magical day in Soroa, set in the mountains not far from Havana. After a few hectic days of work in Havana, an alpine escape was exactly what I needed. Me, my husband, and a few friends visited the waterfall (and took far too many photos!) and then wandered through the orchid garden. Whenever I smell an orchid now, I’m transported back to that day.
